The 2017 Civic Awards ceremony was held in Victoria Hall on Wednesday, April 4th 2018. This yearly celebration honours the Citizens of Cobourg who selflessly give hours of their time and energy to better our community.

Theses awards are organized and sponsored by the Mayor of Cobourg, the Councillors and staff as well as many citizens and organizations.

This year the Victoria Hall Volunteers received the prestigious Mayor's Award of Distinction recognizing our charitable organization which has raised over $300,000 for the continued restoration and preservation of our heritage building, Victoria Hall. Mayor Brocanier selected our volunteer group for the many years of service dating back to the 1970's when the building was slated for destruction. Numerous citizens of Cobourg united to save the building and this group evolved into what is known today as the Victoria Hall Volunteers.

Our thanks goes out to Mayor Brocanier for this honour.

The annual Volunteer Award ceremony presented by the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration was held on March 27 at the Lion's Center in Cobourg.  Each year we celebrate the unique skills and talents of deserving Victoria Hall Volunteers for their continuous and exceptional contributions to our numerous fundraisers. Five Victoria Hall Volunteers' members were recognized and received their pins at this event.

Formal and Flannel PosterOn December 15, 2017 the Victoria Hall Volunteers hosted An Early Canadian Christmas Evening to raise funds for the preservation of Victoria Hall. The event was sold out and although the weather was cold and snowy, the guests arrived in high spirits. The majority of them chose to dress in either a formal, or period costume, or in flannel.

The volunteers decorated the Concert Hall and the tables to reflect the decor of the 1870's with greenery, cornhusk angels, peg dolls and soldiers, ribbons, crocheted snowflakes and other homespun items.

The delicious appetisers, roast beef dinner with yorkshire pudding, and trifle for dessert was catered by the Buttermilk Cafe and received rave reviews.

Guests were entertained by a broad selection of Christmas Classics provided by the Terry Fox School Choir, the Corktown Fiddlers and the Oriana Singers who put everyone in the holiday spirit.

All in all, this was a very successful evening from the moment the guests were greeted at the front door until the moment they said their good-byes, bundled up against the snow.

The funds raised from this event will be used well and we thank the people who supported us by buying tickets to this Early Canadian Christmas Evening.

Victoria Hall Volunteers dedicated their Canada 150 anniversary legacy project to Victoria Hall and the citizens of Cobourg on September 25, 2017. This project is the restoration of the First and Second World War memorial names hanging on the north wall of the foyer in Victoria Hall. With the help of the Town of Cobourg, Victoria Hall Volunteers contributed to the long term preservation of the A. J. Casson scripts and the gold framing of the memorials. These beautiful memorials are now preserved until Canada's bicentennial in 2067 and beyond for all who visit Victoria Hall.

Victoria Hall Volunteers celebrated the contribution of Marion Hagen to their organization with the dedication of a tree planted in her memory in Victoria Square behind Victoria Hall, Cobourg on September 15, 2017.  Marion was a founding member and first President of our organization.
